The Iranian oil industry, celebrating the centenarian anniversary of its establishment, plays a key role in the economic, political and social developments of the country. Economic-wise, the industry provides the main source of country's foreign exchange revenues and from the political viewpoint, it is considered as the anchor of security and stability in the international arenas. It is always the oil industry, as a powerful and useful lever, that helps the country with its critical situations. Keeping pace with the oil industry, the state gas industry, National Iranian Gas Company in particular, has recently achieved a dominant position in the country and made giant strides towards expanding and improving its efficient services nationwide, the proof of which is a large share of natural gas in the energy basket of the country. Iran's superior status, as the world's second largest holder of natural gas reserves, calls for a growing emphasis on this energy source as well as clearing the potential snags and challenges that appears along the way. Undoubtedly, the gas industry could be considered as the engine of development in the country for now and future; given the significance of the industry, it falls to us to move towards the world markets and prove our decisive role and strong position on the international scene.
The 3rd Iran Gas Forum, as a sequel to the two previous ones, creates excellent opportunities for experts and specialists to share their latest achievements in this industry while discuss about its main challenges; the event is also a stage to draw up practical and reliable guidelines to meet these challenges, taking advantage of expertise and knowledge of professionals from NIGC, universities, public and private research centers, as well as domestic and international gas-related companies.
We hope that continuing this trend shall pave the way for promoting the gas industry and developing of domestic potentialities and knowledge in its different sectors while establishing synergy among experts and professionals of the growing gas industry.
Meanwhile, we are in debt to high ranking officials of the Ministry of Petroleum and our colleagues in Science and Executive committees as well as the Forum Secretariat for creating such a great opportunity and gratefully acknowledge their support and contributions.
